How do bridges inspire you? Tell us with your submission to the second annual ASCE Bridges Photo Contest, now through March 31, 2014. We are
looking for striking photographs of bridges, taken in the U.S. or abroad, that highlight the design and engineering achievements of civil engineers.

Judges will recognize two winners in each of seven categories for a total of 14 winning images. Winners get cash prizes, and their entries are eligible for publication in the 2015 ASCE Bridges Calendar.

Contest Judges: Stephen Buonopane (engineer), Karen Hutton (photographer), Ken Kaminesky (photographer), Ken Maschke (engineer), Henry Petroski (engineer), Lynn Saville (photographer).

About the Sponsor: Founded in 1852, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 140,000 civil engineers worldwide and is America’s oldest national engineering society. ASCE is dedicated to advancing the individual civil engineer as well as the science and profession of civil engineering through education.

By entering the Contest, Contestant warrants that the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by or for the Contestant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights,trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the photograph.

Contestants will retain all rights to any photographs they submit, including ownership if applicable. Contestants shall only grant the Sponsor rights (as described in ‘Usage of Entry’ below) to submitted photographs if they are named a category winner or viewers’ choice finalist. Before Contestants are formally named a winner or finalist the Sponsor will contact Contestants to confirm that they agree to grant the rights to submitted images as described below.

Usage of Entry
Contestants whose photographs are formally named a winner or finalist shall grant the Sponsor a royalty-free, nonexclusive, worldwide, irrevocable right, in perpetuity, to:
– Use the photograph on the Internet in support of Sponsor’s mission.
– Use the photograph in Sponsor’s noncommercial communications.
– Provide the photograph to other individuals and organizations for
noncommercial use and for Sponsor-related use in news stories, newsletters, reports, slide shows, displays, web pages, and the like.
– Use, in connection with the Contest and Bridges Calendar, Contestant’s name, city, state and country of residence in promotions and other publications.
– Keep the files provided and to archive the images on CD or in other electronic forms, so that winning photos can be used to support Sponsor’s mission and properly credited.
– As conditions of this permission, the Sponsor shall credit all photographs with the caption “Photo by Contestant’s Name” or “© Contestant’s Name.”
– At Sponsor’s discretion, use the photograph in ASCE’s Bridges Calendar, including such enhancements, alterations, or edits as deemed appropriate by ASCE for such purpose; and publish, display, distribute, reproduce, and sell such photograph as incorporated within the ASCE Bridges Calendar, in any media and for any purpose worldwide, without additional compensation to Contestant.
